Parrots at Belize Bird Rescue
We see a huge variety of birds here at Belize Bird Rescue, from a giant solitary eagle to baby woodpeckers. The majority of the time though, we deal with parrots. These are some we come into contact with every day:
- Yellow-headed parrot
- White-fronted parrot
- Parakeet
- Red-lored parrot
- Mealy parrot
- Yellow-lored parrot
- White-crowned parrot
On our rehabilitation page we explain the process of returning a bird back to the wild.
At any time there can be over 100 birds in our care. That's a lot of papaya, banana, bugs, coconut, leaves, toys, etc etc. Please take a look at our wishlist to see if there are any items you'd like to donate to help with the day-to-day running of the centre.
The yellow-headed parrot is one of our main focuses, due to its status as endangered. Please read more about this on the yellow-headed parrot page.
We have lots of information in the resources section where you can find factsheets and information on parrot care.
And, of course, we do get very attached to some of our resident parrots. We bring one of them to your attention every month on the parrot of the month page!
