Employment Opportunity at Belize Bird Rescue
Position: Skilled Handyman & Groundskeeper

Belize Bird Rescue (BBR) is excited to announce an opening for a Belizean National or Resident to join our dedicated team.
BBR is a registered NGO committed to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of all bird species in Belize. This is a full-time position, beginning with a 3-month trial period and leading to permanent employment for the right candidate.

About the Role
As part of our small and committed team, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for maintenance, groundskeeping, and facility support, while also assisting with some aspects of bird care.
We are looking for a skilled, practical individual with hands-on experience and the ability to work independently. Duties include:

General property maintenance and upkeep

Repairs and renewals to existing aviaries
-
Enclosure building (welding skills required)
-
Basic carpentry — building roost boxes
-
Simple plumbing tasks and maintenance (cold-water system)
-
Safe operation of power tools
-
Tractor operation — bush-hogging trails and pulling trailers (on BBR property)
-
Weed-eating and mowing
-
Assisting with basic bird care, including feeding and cleaning
-
Occasional weekend morning shifts (on a rota, with additional pay)
This position involves outdoor work in all weather conditions, so applicants should be physically fit and comfortable working outdoors.

Essential Requirements
Applicants must be:

Living close enough to Belize Bird Rescue to commute daily (one mile off the highway in Roaring Creek, Cayo)
-
A Belizean National or Resident
-
Fluent in English and Spanish
-
Able to work independently and as part of a team
-
Reliable, practical, and willing to take initiative

Required Skills
-
Valid driver’s licence
-
Ability to operate a tractor, trailer, and bush-hog on BBR property
-
Basic woodworking and plumbing skills
-
Experience with power tools (cordless and bench saws, drills, chainsaw, weed eater)
-
Strong general maintenance and problem-solving skills
​
Desirable Skills (an advantage)
-
Welding experience
-
Driving a manual (stick-shift) pickup (rescues and vet trips as needed)

Working Hours

Monday to Friday: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm (1-hour lunch break at 12:00 pm)

Weekend duty: 7:30 am – 9:30 am plus occasional weekend morning shifts - on a rota, with additional pay

Additional Information

No prior experience in wildlife rehabilitation is required — full training will be provided where needed.

There is no closing date; we will take our time to find the right person.

Due to the nature of our work, please do not visit the facility without an appointment.

A clean police record will be required for the successful candidate.

Starting Pay
BZD $350 per week after deductions (approximately $9.30 per hour)
